I don't think God could have given me a smoother transition out of college into independent living. While the part of Oakland that we're living in is hardly representative of the entire city, I know that embracing this place is matter that can be taken into my own hands. In this 1.5 month break before work begins (the good Lord provided as He promised he would), I'm seizing the opportunity to walk these downtown streets, take public transportation, observe the faces of people so vastly different from me, smile and say hello to them (and garner a response from half of them), and come home to community dinners cooked by my new roommates. I also spend some lazy mornings in my pajama spanks watching Master Chef and Hell's Kitchen. Cooking shows, man. They're the best.
I'm also reading a lot more, which I realized I actually love. That Amazon gift card I got for graduation came in handy! With our new location being close enough to Berkeley for me to go and visit, but far enough away that it feels like a new place; with many precious friends and relationships still close by to keep a sense of home, I've been blessed much in this transitional experience. Here's now to the deliberate choices to enter new communities, and becoming a serving member, and committing to old friendships. And yep, now is the time to spend sweet time resting, learning, and asking the Lord for greater vision, because here's this little life that is quite frankly completely his. What freedom and joy to declare that!
That was really scattered. That's okay though.
